Pros: - Plays back all my files that I throw at it.
- Supports 3D playback of 3D MKV files
- Supports keyboard/mouse
- Supports HD Audio of DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD to pass through to your audio receiver.
- Supports 2TB internal hard drive (I use the Hitachi I bought on NewEgg)
- Internet Radio
- Includes USB Wireless-N Dongle
Cons: - does not support fancy movie cover art
- Web Browsing should be left out
- does not include HDMI Cable
Other Thoughts: Overall this media player plays all my movie and music files that I fed it. After installing a hard drive I notice my PC and Smart Phone can see the Fusion HD on the network and I can stream music and video to them too (So Cool!). I only had 3D side by side in MKV to try out and it looks great on my LG 5600 3D HDTV.
Overall I'm satisfied.
Pros: I just bought the Fusion HD NX-1000 and absolutely LOVE IT! I’m soo glad I choose this one versus some of the other ones on the market. I was tired of watching movies from my laptop and this was exactly what I needed.
All I had to do was install the hard drive, plug the device into the TV w/ an HDMI cable and voila! You’re done! No more movie nights watching on the laptop.
Another thing that made me choose Fusion HD NX-1000 was the great customer service reps they have. I asked soo many questions, making sure I touched all basis, and they answered them w/ soo much professionalism, not once pressuring me to buy. And their Technical support was very helpful and friendly, a rare find!
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone and everyone who is in search of a media player!
Cons: None
I bought this media player a few weeks ago and so far I'm surprised at how simple it is to operate. I have had media players in the past and I would have to go through several confusing steps to set up and to locate shares on my home network. Once I turned it on and set up my network connections using the networking wizard- it automatically detected my computers and laptops I have allowed sharing on the network and added them to the network shares list. At first I couldn't access them or play the files, then I realize I had to turn off the firewall on my windows 7 PC and I had to add "everyone" on the share permissions for each folder that I wanted to share that contained my photos, videos, and music. Their tech support was really helpful and supportive.
I like the fact that I can install an internal hard drive so I don't have to carry an external hard drive when I took it with me to Las Vegas this past weekend. I just pop in my hard drive with stuff in there already and I didn't even need to format it... I no longer have to pay for movies and TV entertainment in hotel!! It was also great that I can plug in my camera with pictures and view them as a slide with background music stored in the hotel - I didn't even have to wait till I got home to enjoy the photos and video! I also no longer have to carry my ipod for music because I can just connect this to the TV and have tons of music ready to go- and I already lost a few ipods from my past vacations...
I was skeptical at first about the price, but when I found out that it came with a 2 year warranty after talking to them - I made the purchase and so far I am pretty happy with what I have been using it for. My past media players died on me after a year and I would have to spend another $100+ dollars to replace them - so now I have no worries with the Nixeus! Now everywhere I go I'm planning to bring this baby along with me!!
I became interested in this unit after having bought the brite-view Cinema Go media center. The Cinema Go had a number of problems, so I contacted Nixeus and inquired about the Fusion HD. The person I contacted was one of the most helpful individuals I have ever encountered. Some examples:
1. Asked about eSATA cable functionality - a representative from company replied to my email within 15 minutes, going into great detail and providing me a direct email contact for additional questions.
2. Asked about installing an internal HDD - the representative not only guided me through the process, but also recommended an excellent HDD which is definitely the best product for the price and performance. Again, I received a reply within the hour.
3. After buying the unit I had one additional question about the set up. I sent the email at 8:30 pm PST - customer service replied at 12:30 am PST. It is as if they do not sleep.
A simply amazing level of customer support rarely found these days.
In addition, the product itself is great:
* plays every file related to my specific needs (mkv, iso, divx/avi)
* functional internet browser for quick searches on google (and it works with a usb wireless keyboard/mouse)
* easy-to-use interface
* user-friendly remote control
It basically does everything as advertised. It is worth the extra cost compared to other media center models for its stability, functionality, ease-of-use, and most importantly, superior customer service. I would be surprised if the other brands have that level of care, I can confirm that brite-view did not based on my experiences with them.
I had used purchased Media Players, and Media Extenders in the past, now I was in the market of purchasing a new player that could play 1080p files. I first heard about this product from their Press Release off Yahoo, so it simply got me interested, as I was already in the marketplace for such item. It was either the Western Digital, ASUS or this, and although the previous 2 are around $70 dollars cheaper, I choosed this model due to the features set, 1) I had ability to install a hard drive, 2) Wireless Streaming, 3) Warranty and Customer Service (I was able to get in contact with a live technical support representative, whom was able to answer all my Presales questions).
The product itself when you open it is very compact, not overally big and can be seated nicely next to your Television, and they appear to be licensed by a lot of companies, so that at least made me less weary. One thing regarding other Media Players that I have read upon, and I have noticed to be one of the biggest annoyance of all is about amount of time it takes to startup and load files. To my dismay the FusionHD did not have those issues, installed 500GB Sata drive and the unit load in around 15-20 seconds; loading of my 25GB Avatar 1080p .mkv files was literally superman fast, so no complaints there. User interface was very intuitive and quick on response, I remember being at FRY's and they had displayed the Asus O'Play and their remote was god awful and navigation took around 2 clicks to respond!
Setting up the unit was not difficult at all, I did not pull my hair this time around, although the Quick Start Guide could have been written better and more concise. There is a web browser feature on there, but I could not get it to work on some web sites that required Adobe Flash. Will have to look into it more if there is a option for this to turn on? It does have YouTube, which is really nice but lacks the YouTube HQ option and option to switch from 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p. iMedia - there version of WEB TV (Fusion Channel) - not that great, I was able to watch QVC from Japan, ShopNBC, WGN weather if I recall and a few others. None of them realy float my boat. It did have FlickR photo application, which is pretty cool, my sister loves this function as she has around One Million photos of my nephew stored on their server.
One thing I was hoping they would have is NetFlix - My sister subscribes to a NetFlix account which would be ideal for her to use with a device like this, but unfortunately it does not. It beats me having to reupload movies to her on a frequent bases. But I did find out that there is a program called PLAY-ON that can work with this player and has Hulu and NetFlix. I will have to look into more detail.
Overall - The product is a nice gadget for my nephew to use that was able to play high definition 1080p without hiccup, I ended up showing my nephew how it works, who is 11 and now he wants me to buy him one "hehehe".
PROS:
1) Playback - files playback without hiccup, especially my 25GB 1080P File
2) Setup was easy and did not require me to pound my head to the floor or wall, nor did it take 10 years off my life for the stress and agony.
3) 802.11N Streaming
4) Supports Two Terabyte hard drive - although I only have a 500GB, nice to no it supports larger capacity for future upgrade)
Web Browser
5) Presale Service from Manufacture - I just realized it comes with 2 YEARS WARRANTY!
CONS:
1) NO LCD display - wich there was a LCD to display the file I am playing, sorry I know most of the LCD display are pointless and probably useless but I think it looks nice
2) Some functions can be improved - YouTube HQ option , NO Flash on Web Browser
3) No NetFlix - my sister would love this feature - but will try PLAY-ON SOFTWARE first
4) Quick Start Guide - Needs improvement
Do I recommend this player for anyone interested or is in the market for Multimedia Players. I would have given it a 5 Star f it wasn't for no LCD front display, and Flash, NetFlix.
I bought the Fusion NX-1000HD for the simple fact that I was looking for something that I can install an internal hard drive into. I am not super tech savvy but I know enough and being a girl I can install and configure computers and I love new toys!
Unboxing:
Packaging was very nice. Design looked great in a light black look. Opening the box I found a nice compact unit. Around the size of 2 hard drives stacked on top of each other. The unit was nice looking and very sturdy. Fit nicely in my entertainment cabin. The unit is black with the top portion being black in a piano black gloss finish. Top has their logo printed along with some logos of HDMI - DTS - DOLBY etc.
Setting up:
As I mentioned earlier I am tech savvy enough to install my own hardware. Who says girls are tech limited! I plugged my 750 tb Sata hard drive inside. This was fairly easy just unscrew four screws on the side and connect the cables to the hard drive and re-screw back the top cover. Plugged in the USB Network Dongle and then I plugged the unit onto my Onkyo SKS-HT540 receiver (yes, I love HT gadgets and I am a girl!) and connected to my Vizio SV471XVT 47" LCD 1080P TV and everything hooked up correctly. So setup was a easy for even a girl ;). One thing I wish was included was an HDMI cable. Although I have a extra - just a nice additional would be good. It also has CAT 5 Network cable included. Though I only use Wireless in my Condo due to the wireless and neatness that I prefer.
Graphical User Interface and User Ability:
The thing loaded up very quickly. Nice opening screen that says NIXEUS. Has a nice high resolution black background - sort of reminded me of the PS3 and icon based. You are first prompted with a setup screen allowing you to select language of choice - date and location. Upon further navigation of the setup menu I had setup my wireless system - This part requires a little more tech know-how than anything else. But if you can setup a router - no one should have any issues. I also have a Netgear N Router and it was able to detect. One thing that I did run into was using Windows 7 - I had to select Private Network. I kept on selecting Public Network on my computer and my shares would not show up on the unit, until I choose the Private Network option. User error. Sorry I am still a girl learning as I go. Back to the Graphical User Interface. First you see 9 icon options available for you to select. First option you see is Setup - Then iMedia (consisting of apps like YouTube and Flickr) - Network Shared Folders - Then UPNP -, then my 750 GB hard drive, USB Device, BITTORRENT downloader, Web Browser, and RSS Reader.
One thing I am impressed with is the remote control - the response on it is very good. I have had times where my remote for my Vizio does not response well to the TV. But this remote was actually good. The remote is full-sized and not overly big for a girl's hand not but a lot better than those little tiny remotes that are the size of my iPhone. One thing of annoyance was the fact that when I would press my TV remote or my cable remote the NX-1000 would blink as if the unit was interacting with my TV remote.
Media File Playback:
There are only around 5 file types that I play and have files of. .AVI, .MKV, .M2TS, .TS, .ISO. I have around 90 DVD backup I have made from my own DVD library that is all saved on my 750 Hard Drive. I have all my Friends DVD collection and Sex in the City backed up. So the NX-1000 was a perfect fit for me in having a digital DVD library without having to fumble through MY ENTIRE DVD copies ever again. I have a few 720P and 1080P movies that I have accumulated them and playbacks perfectly fine. Most of these file are around 8GB in size that are .MKV or .M2TS - I usually download overnight and in the day while I am at work. I also have some DivX and .AVI files that playback very smooth. A key element was .TS files taken from my phone camera/camcorder - it all played back!
Network Streaming:
I have a Netgear Wireless-N router. I streamed a HD movie of Gamer without issue (Gerald Butler is so hot!) and also streamed a 1080P .MKV movie of Kick Ass and both files played back perfectly. To my surprise as my Router is in the opposite room in my closet. The wireless adapter that they included had an antenna. So that was probably the reason why it was able to pick up the signal. The UPNP on the NX-1000 also was able to pick up my computer shares as well. So ultimately I was happy.
Youtube, FlickR, and Web Browser:
I like this YouTube function. Just watching the clip "David after the Dentist" on a bigger screen makes it more enjoyable and laughable. FlickR function but I use Snapfish. The Web Browser is nice add-on function and upon researching and contacting technical support. They said USB keyboard and mouse were supported along with USB hub is supported. I had e-mailed them on a Sunday at 3PM and they responded back to me 3 hours later at 6PM with a response. The great part of quick customer service. So I was able to navigate using my Dell Keyboard and Mouse. This made it easier to navigate websites compared to using the remote to surf Facebook. One issue is I could not get onto popular websites like justin.tv and ustream because it required FLASH.
My conclusion:
I just realized that I just wrote a Novel about this product on an Amazon product review.
I am sorry if I wrote too much but I hope I helped out in providing my experience with this product.
The product is great for what I need it to do. Setting up was easy for even a girl like me and product was compact and nice didn't look cheap. I was able to store my 750 Hard Drives inside and if I decide to upgrade to a bigger capacity, it supports up to 2 Tera-bytes. Playback of my files had no problems at all. High Definition .MKV, able to store my digital DVD ISO, playback my camera .TS videos and all my AVI files played back without problem. I really like the remote, during my research on I found a lot of these media player devices all comes with little tiny remotes! Even as a girl, why would anyone want a small, small remote to control anything? I often lose my keys in my house, and cannot imagine losing a little remote!
Plus -
* Playback of wide array of files (.MKV, .M2TS, .AVI, .TS, DVD ISO) along with many more...
* Nice Clean Graphical Interface
* Easy to Setup - Easy enough for a girl to have up and running within 20 minutes
* Network Streaming of HD files and UPNP support
* YouTube
* Customer Service & Technical Support
Minus -
* Other remote emits the front display of the NX-1000 - does not affect the product but a nitpicky thing I have when pressing TV remote and having the front display of the NX-1000 blink.
* No HDMI cable
* Cannot access justin.tv or ustream using their Web Browser
In closing, other than the three issues I pointed out, this product 100% satisfied my needs for a media player. You cannot ask for much more. I hope this review helps out other interested customers.
XOXO,
Francine
I was looking for a device that can store all my movies so I could bring it around with me whenever I have gatherings with friends and family. Most of my friends and family are movie buffs so we like having many options to choose from. This device allows you to install an internal hard drive so it is a perfect for me. I like being able to plug and play without many hassles and I had no problem doing it with this. I just installed my hard drive inside it and boom I had access to all the movies in it.
Sometimes I'm not in the mood to watch the whole movie and just like watching my favorite scenes so the percentage skipper or time skipper really helps with that. Most files are done in a way so you can't do chapter select so this makes it way more convenient. The quality of the picture and sound is top notch and utilizes my 65 inch plasma TV and surround sound to its fullest capabilities.
The ease of use is the best part of the Fusion HD. My parents who aren't very tech savvy have no problem using this and they have a hard time with a computer!!! Other features include the file sharing capabilities which can be very useful if you got other people in the house that have movie files. Me and my sister can share the movies we got on our computers through the wireless network flawlessly.
Anyways, I would recommend the Fusion to anyone who is a hardcore movie fan. The ease of use and the features it has make worth the investment.
